Smack dab in the middle of hot dog season is a day to celebrate the frankfurter: National Hot Dog Day, which falls this year on Wednesday, July 16.
The time between Memorial Day and Labor Day is considered “hot dog season,” according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council. Consumers buy about 38% of the year’s hot dogs during that time, amassing sales of $1.16 billion, estimates the group.
During the pandemic, the council designated the third Wednesday in July – also known as National Hot Dog Month – as the day to celebrate the American classic.

- Love’s Travel Stops: In the Love’s Connect App, you can get a free hot dog each day through Friday, July 18. Find the deal daily in the app; once you add it, scan the barcode at checkout to get a hot dog or roller grill item. (Offer good at select locations in 42 states.)
- Portillo’s: Members of the Portillo’s Perks loyalty program can get $1 hot dogs or vegetarian Garden Dogs through July 20. Members can redeem for two hot dogs.
Shake Shack: For $8, get two classic hot dogs or limited-time Flat Top Dogs with topping choices of Angus beef chili, fried pickles, chopped bacon, melted cheese, and crispy onions. The offer is available through Aug. 11 and is good in-store and for delivery or pick-up via the Shake Shack Mobile App or shakeshack.com.
