As the new West Indies captain, Chase faces two pressing challenges: rediscovering his rhythm in Test matches and overcoming Australia in his opening series. He’s optimistic about meeting these goals, relying on his “calm style” of leadership.

Chase makes his return to Test cricket for a three-match series at home, kicking off on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

“I’ve never held the captaincy for the senior West Indies or Barbados teams, but I have led eight teams in the West Indies. I believe I’m a capable leader. While I’m not flawless and still have much to learn, I’m eager to take on this role,” Chase shared during a conversation arranged by FanCode.

At 33, Chase had discussions with head coach Darren Sammy prior to succeeding Kraigg Brathwaite.

“My captaincy talks were with Darren Sammy and Miles Bascombe from the board. Despite being away for two years, Sammy reached out to me because I’ve always had the desire to return and play Test cricket.”
